Background and Workshop Description
Traditionally mentoring in the workplace has been described as a relationship in which a more experienced colleague uses his or her greater knowledge and understanding of the work or workplace to support the development of a more junior or inexperienced member of staff. One key feature is that mentoring relationships tend to be long term and work on building trust between two individuals and the business. Mentoring involves the use of similar models and skills of questioning, listening, clarifying and reframing associated with coaching. Mentoring is an important tool for any manager to use to support, advice and guide his people.
Course Content & Aims
The workshop will help you to understand what Mentoring is and isn’t. It will explain the roles and how to build that important business relationship with your people. A range of communication models will be shared together with a practical set of tools and techniques. A simple model for mentoring will be shared together with the skills required to make it work for the individual, the team and the business. The workshop should give you the confidence to then start mentoring in your workplace. The workshop is for people who would like to understand and use Mentoring as a management tool. Delegates will need to be willing to work with the mentoring model back in their workplace.
